Spike Press worked with Milwaukee Magazine on the cover for their Best of 2012 issue. The cover, as well as the interior content was designed to be entirely interactive with a mobile device.

Dragon Brush

iPad & iPhone app

Spike Press and longtime friend Andy Hullinger partnered with the talented folks at Small Planet Digital on this interactive children's book app.

Based on a traditional Chinese folk tale, Dragon Brush tells the story of Bing-Wen, a young artist who is given a magic brush that brings his paintings to life.

Also had some help from my good friends in The National, with Matt Berninger supplying the narration and Aaron and Bryce Dessner contributing the theme song.

Spike Press worked closely with Acquity Group, bringing a rich, storytelling component to key attributes of Li-Ning, China’s top domestic sportswear brand, as they enter the U.S. market. Applications range from pattern and texture to typographic integration on a wide range of media.

Chicago Magazine asked Spike Press and 5 other designers to create covers for their December 2010 “40 Reasons to Love Chicago” issue, and in the end selected Spike Press. Thanks and congratulations to Chicago Magazine!

This “Waterlogged” t-shirt was bundled with a poster for the release of The National's acclaimed album, High Violet. Grab them both from The National Shop.

The design was also adapted for use as a stage backdrop for their 2011 European summer tour dates.

The Boring Store

Website Illustration

Supplying all of Chicago's secret
agent needs, The Boring Store raises money for the Dave Eggers-founded 826CHI, which helps 6- to 18-year-old students develop creative writing skills. Spike Press jumped at the chance to work on this project, not only to support 826CHI's worthy cause, but also because the site is based on illustrations done for The Boring Store by the one and only Chris Ware.

Domani Studios

Wall Mural

When interactive ass-kickers
Domani Studios opened their Chicago office, they had it all: exposed brick loft, Guitar Hero, fridge stocked with microbrews, and a giant glaringly blank wall. To remedy this Spike
Press was asked to design a 14'x12' mural that reflected the unique Domani sensibility as well as their new location. The final design was printed and hung using custom wallpaper.
